Aspects of our work have included training counsellors, providing counselling services with a growing involvement in organisational consultation. In recent years, however, we have absorbed our counselling, psychological, organisational and other skills into a primary concern with facilitation. Kinharvie Institute was founded on the values and principles of the international institute of the Marist Brothers. We are inclusive and non religious in our ways of thinking and working. We draw on the best available knowledge and on the personal and professional experience of colleagues of various faiths and none. While we are concerned to help individuals and organisations develop creative and cooperative spirit in their work, we always encourage people to define their own concerns and develop their skills.
What do we mean by ‘facilitation’? By facilitation we mean an approach to working with others which enables people to find and draw on their own strengths and skills; which fosters practical and imaginative ways of working on the issues which concern them; and which enhances self confidence and mutual support. We believe that people - in their own lives, in organisations, in communities - can do more when they work together with others than when they are isolated or excluded. We seek to engage people with honesty, care and constructive challenge, providing an encouraging frame within which innovation, problem solving and constructive experimentation can be sustained. By facilitation we also mean working to make all the resources of knowledge, experience, skill and human understanding available to people in ways which can allow solutions to be found and new ventures to be undertaken.
What approach do we use? We work in ways that are personal and professional, engaging with clients to identify issues, to make new sense of problems and to support innovative solutions. We can draw on knowledge and skills from counselling and psychotherapy, organisational development, systems thinking, psychology, research and creative problem solving to engage with whatever is of most concern to clients. To what end do we work? We seek to help people help themselves in ways which draw on their own potential and which breathe more of who they are into what they do. We believe that work should and can be life enhancing, personally fulfilling and socially enriching.
Who do we work with? We work with a wide range of individuals presenting many different issues, problems and concerns. These range from general concerns about personal meaning in life and work to particular difficulties which may involve alcohol, drug misuse, physical and sexual abuse, rape, depression, and stress. We work with a wide range of organisations mainly charities and other not for profit groups. These have included organisations concerned with homelessness, black and minority ethnic issues, gender issues, addiction and abuse. We also work with a spectrum of community institutions including social services, schools and education departments, the Health Service, religious communities, local authorities, and universities. Equal Opportunities We strive for equal opportunities for our employees and clients.
