Reflective Living for People Supporting others Living with Dementia

A dedicated space for carers to reflect and focus on their current life stage while supporting loved ones with dementia.

Who We Are?

Paul Cummings and Caroline Brown bring personal experience as carers for parents with dementia. Paul's mother currently lives with dementia, while Caroline supported both parents through their dementia journey. Additionally, Caroline's husband experienced memory loss following a head injury before his death.

As experienced facilitators, trainers, and coaches, we possess a deep understanding of the trauma associated with a loved one's dementia diagnosis. Our shared experiences inspired us to create this supportive initiative for others facing similar challenges.

Why We're Doing This?

We recognised a lack of support for carers and the difficulty in navigating existing resources. With over 90,000 people in Scotland living with dementia, many loved ones suddenly find themselves in the role of "carer," embarking on an unfamiliar, often scary, isolating, and traumatic journey. This transition can lead to a loss of personal identity.

Our goal is to provide a warm, welcoming environment where you can discover your needs and find support.

How We'll Do It

We will host weekly sessions every Tuesday for six weeks, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at: Kinharvie.  Refreshments are provided free of charge. The program is open to anyone identified as a carer, and we invite you to help shape the content. There is no cost to participate.  The group will have no more than 8 people to ensure everyone feels safe and comfortable and has time to share anything they wish.

What We Bring

  • First-hand lived experience and understanding of your situation
  • Expertise as facilitators combined with personal knowledge of caregiving challenges
  • Passion for supporting your journey of self-discovery
  • Compassion and non-judgmental support
  • Deep listening without attempting to "fix" you
  • Opportunities to connect with others in similar situations
  • Refreshments, including tea, coffee, and cake

Potential Outcomes

While we have ideas, we want to co-create this experience with you. Possible benefits include:

  • Time to reflect on the impact of your loved one's diagnosis
  • Support for your mental health and wellbeing
  • A space to breathe and simply be
  • Discovering your inner strength and drawing support from others

This pilot program embraces co-production principles. We'll use questionnaires at the first and last sessions to assess your needs and evaluate the program's effectiveness.
